Novel Koushien 2010 Feedback
Though whether or not Novel Koushien or something like it will happen again is undetermined (that, of course, depends on you guys), just in case we'd like to hear what everyone thought. Just let us know your opinion, if you enjoyed yourself, and what might help you enjoy it more.

All feedback is welcome whether it be from participants, watchers, or anyone else who's taken interest. Though it might be helpful if you let us know which one of those you are.

If you're not sure what to say, some questions you might consider are under the cut. Thanks everyone!

1. (Of course) Should we do it again? Would YOU do it again?

2. What are some things about the current setup that you'd like to make sure stay? What would you suggest might go or change?

3. How did the length work for you? Clearly things died a little in the second half, so do you think the activity ought to be shorter, or do you think some other changes can help to keep it going the full time?

4. How did you feel about the timing? If we continued doing Novel Koushien it would seem natural to do it yearly, but does that seem good to you, and would you change the time of year? Also, if we do it a second time, fans will likely be more active and interested during or shortly after the time the season is still airing. Should any effort be made to capture that time when fans are more active, or would that make the next time too soon? (If the new season is 25 episodes, that means it would end in September, right?)

5. What did you think of the format? Does styling it after a baseball game make it more entertaining and interesting, or would you rather things be simpler. What did you think about the competitive aspect?

6. What did you think of the pairing choices? We ended up allowing unlisted pairing so long as the claimer told us they were claiming it so we could add it to the list. Good or bad?

7. What did you think of the goals? (All those pairings and the 50k word count.) Was it too much to even try to go for, or do you think it is something we can build toward (it's koushien, after all!)?

8. Do you think we should make more of an effort to find more participants? Do you have any ideas of what could help?

EDIT: 9. It seems to me Novel Koushien submissions got less feedback than people normally do just posting their work alone at Oofuri_etc. What could be done to help this? Having authors post their work into the com themselves? (Which might complicate things.) Relaying each submission separately to Oofuri_etc rather than linking them all in one 'inning over' post? Something else?

10. Any other comments? All these questions are just things coming off my head this minute. If there's anything else you'd like to say or ask, please do!

1. Heck yes!
2,3. For me personally, the two week time period was a lot easier to work with than the one week time period. Of course, this would make the entire thing run longer, but I think with the longer two week period more submissions would be completed.
4. The timing was good to start, since it was over the holidays, but once people got back to work/school submissions dropped a lot. I agree with the previous poster that a Summer Koushien could be very successful, and it will be in the middle of the second season, so you'll get a lot more fans coming from that!
6. I liked the way that the pairings were set up, and see no problem in people being able to add their own. Especially with a lot of new characters entering the scene in this season of the anime.
8,9. Finding more participants and more mods maybe? For finding more participants, the new season will do a lot of the work for you, but starting to advertise it ASAP in oofuri etc would probably help too. Finding a few more mods would help with the organization and the upkeep of lists and posting announcements over in oofuri etc too, which would help w/ the comments part. I actually liked the idea of the inning end post because it organizes all of the new stuff so neatly. Overall, just updating a bit more regularly and keeping the lists organized and up to date would probably help with the comments situation as well.

That's all I've got for now, but if I come up w/ any other ideas I'll let you know!

Yeah, I do think the 2 week worked better for everyone. With the current format, though, that'd make it run 4 1/2 months, which is getting embarrassingly close to half a year, hehehehe. I'm wondering if there's some way to shorten the game and still make it work with the 9 inning format...

Wow, I'm a little surprised at the support (from all two of you so far, hahahaha) for doing this again so soon in summer. I figured people would be a little tired of it still by then. Though I guess there may be new/newly returned people coming soon... I still worry that's not how other people feel, though, since you guys replying here were after all just the ones enthusiastic enough to leave us feedback (thank you!!!! <3<3<3) so your opinions might lean a certain way more than others. ^_^ Hmm...

Ok. The end of inning post can easily come back in. I rather liked having them too, but it sort of got scraped since clicking on the tag for the last inning got you almost the same thing. ...But yeah. I'm sort of a sucker for a nice, concise, easy to glance through list. (*cough* since clearly I blab so much when I write paragraphs that short little lists become refreshing*cough* ^_^;)

Yeah, we didn't figure out well enough before hand how to divvy up modly duties, hehehe. ...And for some reason it didn't even occur to me to assign someone posting-announcement duties or community cross-posting duties (^_^;). So...thank you! Hahahaha.

1. Yes, do it please. i missed Novel Koushien but i'm interested to pitch in for the next

8. Advertising at some manga reading forums like mangafox could drive up some traffic same goes to oofuri related communities and threads of course we have to make fans cooperate to spread the word.

Ok, cool! Sorry you missed us the first time! I've sort of decided against doing it any time really soon (since while feedback from those who left feedback is positive, there still isn't terrible much of it, and since part of the whole point before was to get some activity in the fandom whereas now everyone's decently active without it...) but we'll probably try to get it going again sometime!

Actually, we did advertise on MangaFox! I wasn't really sure where else to go, though...

Hello! Welcome! Sorry you missed us before! Last time Novel Koushien ran 3 months. So if it stays like that, doing it twice a year would make it run half the months out of a year, and I don't think we'd do that, hehe. I do wish there was a way to keep the format but shorten it, though, cause 3 months just seems too long to keep people into it, unfortunately. Multiple times is possible if it was shorter...though I worry if we do it multiple times a year people won't be as, uh, excited to participate in every one and might start opting out of doing much since there'll just be another one soon anyway. Guess we'll see.

Before I was talking about doing it again soon to take advantage of how much more active the fandom is right now, but... I think I was sort of forgetting that part of the point of the whole thing was getting people more active when the fandom WASN'T as busy, hehe. So actually, we probably wouldn't do it again when the fandom is still being busy on it's own. I'll keep your vote for around Christmas time in mind, though (I need to go back sometime and look what times of year other people preferred back when we discussed it, too...), cause now the anime is over...getting quieter again is inevitable, isn't it? *sniff*

That's what I figured we'd do at first, but most others seemed to prefer a longer time frame, so we went with that. ...It is possible popular opinion could be overruled next time considering that how it panned out shows how long people THINK they want something to go may not actually be how long they will truly stay interested in it, hehehehe.

Thanks for letting us know about your interest! Hearing from people who want to see it again really does help the likelihood of me trying it again. As it slightly assuages the fear that next to no one will be interested if I propose it again. ^_^

Thanks for letting us know! Though now with the Oofuri kink memes being so popular/active, I don't think we'll be doing this again. People just like that more, hahahah.
